Panthers tied for sixth after defeating Bridgewater State
PLYMOUTH, N.H. – The third Grinold Chapter New England Division III football weekly rankings of the 2017 season have been released, and the Plymouth State University football team continues to rise in the poll, moving into a tie for sixth place.
The Panthers, who held the ninth spot last week, earned 44 points and are tied with Curry College after Saturday's 17-7 win over Bridgewater State University. The top three teams remain unchanged from last week with Springfield College (146 points) earning 11 first place votes to hold the top spot. The Panthers next opponent, Framingham State University, received three first place votes and 136 points to maintain its hold on second place, while Trinity College took home the final first place vote and totaled 119 points to stay in third. Middlebury College (97 points) and Salve Regina (60 points) round out the top five.
MIT (40 points), Husson (39 points) and Western Connecticut State University (33 points) round out the top then.
The Panthers improved to 5-1 on the year and 3-1 in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) after Saturday's 17-7 win over Bridgewater State. PSU is just a half-game behind Framingham State (5-0, 3-0 MASCAC), setting up a huge showdown at Currier Field on Saturday. The Panthers and Rams will square off at 1:00 p.m.
The New England Division III Football Poll is presented by the Jack Grinold Eastern Massachusetts Chapter of the National Football Foundation, which also serves as the title sponsor of the weekly Gold Helmet Awards presented by the New England Football Writers Association throughout the season.
