PSU Football remains third in newest New England D-III Football Poll

Panthers off to best eight-game start since 1995

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – The fifth Grinold Chapter New England Division III football weekly rankings of the 2017 season have been released, and the Plymouth State University football team jumped three places to move into third, following Saturday's 40-14 dismantling of Massachusetts Maritime Academy.

The top five spots in the poll remain unchanged from last week. Springfield College (148 points, 13 first place votes) has held the top slot all five weeks, with Trinity (135 points) and Plymouth State (96 points) each getting a first place vote to round out the top three. Framingham State (76 points) and Salve Regina (73 points) close out the top five.

Husson (64 points) moved ahead of Curry for sixth place, with Curry (63 points) and Western Connecticut (63 points) both tied for seventh. MIT (37 points) and Middlebury (35 points) make up the last of the top ten.

The Panthers improved to 7-1 on the year, the best start to a season through eight games since the team opened the 1995 season a perfect 8-0. Plymouth State, now 5-1 in MASCAC play, remains atop the league standings.

Plymouth State will be back at Currier Field on Saturday (Oct. 28). The Panthers will host Westfield State University on Senior Day in another MASCAC contest. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.

The New England Division III Football Poll is presented by the Jack Grinold Eastern Massachusetts Chapter of the National Football Foundation, which also serves as the title sponsor of the weekly Gold Helmet Awards presented by the New England Football Writers Association throughout the season.

A 15-member panel representing all five New England Division III playing conferences serves as the voters in this year's poll. For more information on the Grinold Chapter of the National Football Foundation, please visit
