Banuskevich named to Weekly Honor Roll for third time

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Plymouth State University junior running back Mitch Banuskevich (Milford, N.H.) was named to the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Football Weekly Honor Roll for the third time this season.

Banuskevich finished with 61 yards on 22 carries and added three catches for 39 yards and a touchdown in the Panthers' 17-0 shutout of MASCAC foe Westfield State on Senior Day at Currier Field Saturday afternoon.

PSU started its first drive of the game on a short field after special teams forced and recovered a fumble on the opening kickoff. Banuskevich got the offense started, picking up eight yards on the ground to set up the Panthers' first score.

In the fourth quarter, with Plymouth State already leading 10-0, the 5-10 back slipped out of the backfield, caught a short screen pass, then followed his blockers 22-yards for an easy touchdown.

Banuskevich has racked up 564 yards and three touchdowns on the ground this year, nearly equaling last year's career-high 588 rushing yards in three fewer games. The dual threat has also hauled in 21 catches on the year for an additional 237 yards and two TDs.

PSU wraps up the regular season at Fitchburg State on Saturday (Nov. 4), with kickoff scheduled for noon. The Panthers will enter the game with an 8-1 mark (6-1 MASCAC) and a win would give Plymouth State the most wins in a season since the 2008 squad that finished 10-2 while winning the NEFC and earning an NCAA Tournament berth. A Panther win, coupled with a win by Framingham State over Western Connecticut would give PSU the MASCAC title for the first time.
