Tarpy hat trick leads PSC past Salem State
PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Senior captain Kerri Tarpy (Biddeford, Maine) scored three second-half goals Tuesday afternoon, leading the Plymouth State College field hockey team to a 4-0 victory over Salem State College in a Little East Conference contest at Arold Field.
The victory was the sixth in a row for Plymouth State, improving the Panthers to 6-3 overall and 5-0 in the LEC. Salem State drops to 2-7 overall and 1-3 in conference play.
Plymouth State held a 1-0 lead at halftime, with junior Sarah Lynch (Belgrade Lakes, Maine) scoring an unassisted goal with 17:45 remaining for the only score of the half. After going without a goal in her first 23 career games, Lynch has now scored three times in her last two outings. Tarpy started her output with 12 minutes into the second half, connecting on her second of the season with an assist from junior Megan Fournier (East Waterboro, Maine). Tarpy's second goal, assisted by freshman Andrea Musante (Amherst, Mass.) came with 16:08 left, and she rounded out her hat trick with just over a minute remaining with an unassisted tally.
The Panthers carried the play most of the afternoon, outshooting Salem State 14-0. Viking goalkeeper Emily King (Wilmington, Mass.) was credited with five saves, while PSC keeper Ellen Ward (Thorndike, Maine) was not called on to make any saves.
