Fournier leads PSC to ninth win in a row

PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Junior Megan Fournier (East Waterboro, Maine) registered three goals Tuesday afternoon, leading the Plymouth State College field hockey team to a 5-1 victory over Framingham State College in a Little East Conference contest at Arold Field.

The victory was PSC's ninth in a row since starting the season at 0-3. The Panthers are also atop the Little East standings with a 7-0 mark, while the Rams drop to 4-11 overall and 0-8 in the conference.

Plymouth State scored three goals in the first 17 minutes of the contest to take a 3-0 lead. Fournier put PSC on the board just over three minute in, and senior Courtney O'Sullivan (East Kingston, NH) and junior Robin Hartman (Santa Maria, Cal.) connected just two minutes apart midway through the first half. Senior Kerri Tarpy (Biddeford, Maine) picked up an assist on O'Sullivan's goal. With head coach Bonnie Lord resting the PSC starters against the overmatched Rams, Framingham got on the board six minutes into the second half as junior Jody Lussier (Northbridge, Mass.) converted a penalty corner from freshman Elizabeth Britton (Barnstable, Mass.) and sophomore Jamie Shannon (Framingham, Mass.). It was the first goal PSC has allowed in five games, or more than 360 minutes of action. Fournier removed all doubt about the outcome with a pair of second half goals, one on a penalty shot and one assisted by freshman Andrea Musante (Amherst, Mass.).

Framingham State keeper Megan Johnson (South Dennis, Mass.) was credited with five saves, while PSC freshman keepers Ellen Ward (Thorndike, Maine) and Kerry Brady (Jefferson, NH) were not called on to make any saves.

PSC returns to action Saturday with an LEC contest at Eastern Connecticut (2 p.m.)
