MANSFIELD, Conn. - The Plymouth State College field hockey team outshot Eastern Connecticut State University 24-1 Saturday, and posted its 10th straight victory - a 6-0 win in Little East Conference action.
Leading 3-0, Plymouth State scored three times in the final nine minutes to pull away to its third win in as many years over the Warriors. PSC improves to 10-3 overall this fall and maintains its spot atop the LEC standings at 8-0, while ECSU drops to 4-13 and 2-7.
Senior forward Courtney O'Sullivan (East Kingston, NH) scored twice and senior forward Kerri Tarpy (Biddeford,ME) and junior forward Sacha Jackon (Sangerville, ME) each added a goal and an assist to lead PSC. Freshman Andrea Musante (Amherst, Mass.) chipped in with her first goal of the season, and sophomore Jill Matteson (Chatham, Mass.) notched her second of the year.
PSC freshman keeper Ellen Ward (Thorndike, ME) needed to make only one save to record her sixth shutout in 10 starts. It was her fifth shutout in the last six outings as she lowered her conference-leading goals against average to 0.64.
The Panthers conclude the regular season this week with four games - Tuesday (Oct. 17) at Fitchburg State (4 p.m.), Thursday (Oct. 19) at home vs. New England College (3:30 p.m.), Saturday (Oct. 21) at Arold Field against Worcester State (1 p.m.) and Sunday (Oct. 22) at St. Michael's College (2 p.m.) With victories over Fitchburg State and Worcester State, PSC would clinch the LEC regular season championship, the top seed and a bye in the first round of the conference tournament next Tuesday (Oct. 24), and home-field advantage in the LEC semi-finals and final on Friday-Saturday, Oct. 27-28.
