PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Two members of the Plymouth State College field hockey team were named to the Division III New England West Regional All-American Team for the 2000 campaign.
Junior midfielder Megan Fournier (East Waterboro, ME) and freshman goalkeeper Ellen Ward (Thorndike, ME) were PSC's representatives on the New England West Region's Second Team, as selected by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association.
A three-year veteran and starter, Fournier has been one of the glues to the team. She finished second on the team in scoring with eight goals and four assists (22 points), and provided strong all-around play from her center midfield position. Fournier was named both the Little East Conference Player of the Week and to the Weekly Honor Roll this season.
As a rookie, Ward was an outstanding defensive boost for the Panthers. Starting PSC's final 17 games, she allowed only 11 goals for a league-leading 0.64 goals against average. She finished the season with 97 saves and collected nine shutouts. Ward was selected to the LEC Honor Roll in September, and was ECAC New England Goalkeeper of the Week as well.
Both Fournier and Ward participate in two sports for the Panthers, and can now be seen playing for the PSC Women's Basketball team.
The Panther duo were the leaders on the PSC squad that finished 10-0 in the Little East regular season under first-year head coach Bonnie Lord. The Panthers captured the LEC Championship and earned a bid to the NCAA Tournament, but lost in the first round to New England College, 1-0, and finished 15-5 overall.
