Panthers come back against Westfield

PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Plymouth State College scored three second-half goals Tuesday afternoon to post a 3-1 come-from-behind victory over Westfield State College in a Little East Conference field hockey game at Arold Field.

The victory gives PSC a 3-2 overall record and a 2-0 mark in LEC games, while Westfield drops to 1-4 overall and 0-2 in the conference.

Plymouth State outshot Westfield State 11-3 in the first half, but the Owls got the only goal of the half, as sophomore Theresa Yacovone (East Longmeadow, Mass.) scored with 18:35 on the clock. The Panthers got on the board seven minutes into the second half when senior Megan Fournier (East Waterboro, Maine) knocked in her second goal of the season, with junior Kristle Wheeler (Brandon, Vt.) picking up an assist. Junior Katie Dodge (Sanbornton, N.H.) gave PSC the lead with an unassisted goal with 12 minutes remaining, and Wheeler added an insurance tally with 5:37 to play, assisted by senior Robin Hartman (Santa Maria, Cal.). PSC finished with a 25-5 advantage in shots on goal.

Panther sophomore goalie Kerry Brady (Jefferson, N.H.) made two saves in her first start of season, and WSC junior keeper Jill Annunciata (Waltham, Mass.) was forced to make 11 saves.

The Panthers return to action Thursday evening (7:30 p.m.) with a non-conference game in Worcester, Mass., against Trinity College. Westfield State plays again Saturday at WPI (9:30 a.m.)
