PSC nips Bridgewater State

PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Plymouth State College scored two goals in the first half Saturday to earn a 2-1 victory over Bridgewater State College in a Little East Conference field hockey game at Arold Field.

The Panthers captured their third consecutive LEC victory and extended their overall winning streak to five games. Bridgewater State has lost its last three games to see its record fall to 6-5 overall and 4-2 in the LEC, while Plymouth State now stands at 8-4 overall and 5-1 in the LEC.

The Panthers struck first as senior Sacha Jackson (Sangerville, Maine) received her own rebound and shot it past junior Bears keeper Johannah Price (Shannock, R.I.) with 29 minutes remaining. PSC scored again with 84 seconds left in the half when Danielle Cardin (South Hampton, Mass.) scored on a pass from Marushka Eddy (Nantucket, Mass.) making the score 2-0. The Bears responded in the second half when Kerry Leach (Ashland, Mass.) scored with 21:43 left in second half, but the Panther defense remained strong and allowed no further shots for remainder of the game.

Plymouth State finished with a 22-2 advantage in shots on goal and Price was credited with 12 saves for Bridgewater State. Panther sophomore keeper Ellen Ward (Thorndike, Maine) was rarely challenged in goal and finished with one save.

The Panthers look to continue their streak this Monday (Oct. 8) with a LEC game at Framingham State (4:00 p.m.). The next home game is Saturday (Oct. 13) against Eastern Connecticut (2:00 p.m.)
