PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Plymouth State College completed a perfect Little East Conference field hockey regular season Saturday with a 6-1 victory over Framingham State College at Arold Field.
The Panthers, 15-1 overall and winners of 12 in a row, finish a perfect 10-0 in LEC play this season. PSC has captured three straight Little East regular season titles, winning 29 of 30 conference games since 2000. The visiting Rams conclude the regular season at 5-12 overall and 3-7 in the LEC.
Freshman Lilly Silva (Lowell, Mass.) and senior Katie Dodge (Sanbornton, N.H.) led the way for the Panthers with two goals apiece. Seniors Jill Matteson (Chatham, Mass.) and Marushka Eddy (Nantucket, Mass.) chipped in with one goal apiece, and sophomore Amanda Gutowski (Conway, N.H.) contributed a pair of assists. Matteson leads the team with 12 goals, and Gutowski is second on the team in scoring with eight goals and five assists.
Freshman Becky Martin (Fairhaven, Mass.) broke the shutout with 15 minutes left in the second half with her sixth goal of the season for the Rams.
Junior goalkeeper Ellen Ward (Thorndike, Maine) made four saves for PSC before giving way to classmate Kerry Brady (Jefferson, N.H.), who made one save in the final 21 minutes. Senior Megan Johnson (South Dennis, Mass.) made 12 saves in the Framingham State net.
Plymouth State, ranked #2 in the NCAA New England West Region, has earned a bye in the first round of the LEC Tournament. The top-seeded Panthers will host the LEC semifinals at Arold Field Friday (Nov. 8) at 12:00 p.m. and 2:30 p.m., with PSC playing in the first game. The LEC Championship game is Saturday (Nov. 9) at PSC at 12 noon, with the winner receiving an automatic berth into the NCAA Division III Tournament.
