PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Two of the leaders of the Plymouth State College field hockey team have been named to the 2002 STX/NFHCA Division III All-Region Team by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association.
Senior back Kristle Wheeler (Brandon, Vt.) was selected to the New England West Region First Team, and senior midfielder Katie Dodge (Sanbornton, N.H.) was voted to the New England West Region Second Team. Both Wheeler and Dodge were named Little East Conference First Team All-Stars last week.
Wheeler completed a terrific career as a Panther defender, earning All-Conference honors for the third straight year. She anchored a PSC defense that posted 10 shutouts this season and allowed only 12 goals in 19 games. She also helped the Panthers limit their opponents to an average of 8.2 shots per game (compared to 19.8 for the PSC offense). Wheeler, who was selected the Most Outstanding Player of the Little East Conference Tournament two weeks ago, also contributed four goals and one assist this season, including the first goal of the LEC Championship game.
Dodge wrapped an outstanding career as a four-year starter for the Panthers, earning All-Conference honors three times. A strong all-around player and co-captain as a senior, Dodge also finished fourth on the team and 11th in the league in scoring with five goals and 18 points. She ranked second in the conference with eight assists.
Wheeler and Dodge were the top players on a Panther squad that won its third consecutive Little East Conference title and advanced to the NCAA Division III National Tournament for the third year in a row. PSC finished with a 17-2 overall record this year, and is 47-12 the last three years under head coach Bonnie Lord.
