Keene State dumps Plymouth State in Field Hockey

KEENE, N.H. - Senior Tanya Strong (Hatfield, Mass.) had two goals and junior Kaitlin Henley (Somers, N.Y.) added a goal and two assists Saturday to lead the Keene State College field hockey team to a 5-1 Little East Conference victory over rival Plymouth State University before a Homecoming crowd at Owl Athletic Complex.

The outcome snapped PSU's 18-game LEC regular season winning streak, dating back to 2001, and handed the Panthers only the second conference loss in the last four years. The Panthers drop to 2-4 overall and 1-1 in conference play this fall, while Keene State improves to 5-3 overall and 3-0 in the LEC. KSC was the last team to defeat PSU during the regular season, back on Sept. 22, 2001.

Keene State took a 1-0 lead on Amanda Rosenbeck's (Wilder, Vt.) first college goal. After PSC tied the game on a goal by freshman Shannon Santamaria (Northfield, N.H.), KSC went ahead for good on a goal by Katy Pokrywka (Roxbury, Conn.) with three minutes to go in the first half.

KSC put the game away with three unanswered goals in the second half. Strong scored both of her goals to give her a team-leading eight for the season and Henley netted her second of the season.

Sophomore Michelle Codding (Jericho, Vt.) had six saves for KSC while senior Kerry Brady (Jefferson, N.H.) had a busy day in goal for the Panthers with 30 saves.

Plymouth State returns home to try and regroup in time for Wednesday's 4:00 p.m. LEC contest against the University of Southern Maine. KSC is at Middlebury College on Wednesday (4:00 p.m.).
