PSU Field Hockey gets past Salem State

By Eli Brewer

PLYMOUTH, N.H. -  Senior Amanda Gutowski (Conway, N.H.) scored the only goal of the game for the Plymouth State University field hockey team Tuesday afternoon, securing a 1-0 Little East Conference win over Salem State College at Arold Field.

The Panthers improve to 7-3 overall and 3-2 in the conference, while Salem State falls to 2-6 overall and 2-3 in the LEC.

The goal by Gutowski, assisted by junior Katie Kovacs (Hampton, N.H.) was her sixth of the season.  It came with only 55 seconds left in the first half and ended up deciding the game.  Kovacs slid a pass across the crease to the right side, and Gutowski finished off the play with the goal.

Plymouth State applied offensive pressure throughout the entire game, recording a decisive 20-1 advantage in shots.  Sophomore Amy Rondeau (Pepperell, N.H.) recorded the Vikings' only shot of the day in the second half.

Junior Meaghan Oskirko (Lancaster, Mass.) was strong in the Vikings' net, recording 17 saves, while PSU freshman goalkeeper Katie Randall (Portsmouth, N.H.) stopped the only shot she faced.

Plymouth State next travels to Bridgewater State on Saturday (12:00 p.m.).  Salem State will travel to Eastern Connecticut State on Saturday (1:00 p.m.).
