More weekly honors for PSU student-athletes
- Three Plymouth State University student-athletes were recognized Monday with weekly honors as the Panther fall teams begin preparations for the upcoming Little East Conference tournaments.
Senior Annie Metz (North Chelmsford, Mass.) was named LEC Field Hockey Defensive Player of the Week, and senior Dan Custance (Holderness, N.H.) was named LEC Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week. In addition, Panther freshman goalkeeper Katie Randall (Portsmouth, N.H.) was named Rookie of the Week by womensfieldhockey.com.
Metz has been instrumental in leading the PSU field hockey team to
five straight wins, including both games last week. She helped the
Panthers to back-to-back 3-0 shutouts over Fitchburg State and
Worcester State, allowing Fitchburg State, which was in first place
at the time, only five shots, and Worcester State, just six shots.
Metz also collected a pair of game-winning goals, scoring PSU's
first goal in both games.
Randall was PSU's goalkeeper for both shutout victories last week,
making four saves in each contest. The shutouts were her second and
third whitewashes of the season, and she lowered her goals against
average to 1.41. Randall is tied for second in the conference in
shutouts and ranked third in goals against.
Custance played 143 minutes of scoreless soccer last week, leading
the Panthers to a pair of victories. He entered last Wednesday's
game against Green Mountain College at halftime, trailing 1-0, and
shut down the Eagles as PSU came from behind for a 2-1 overtime
victory. Custance came back Sunday with a 3-0 LEC shutout of
Western Connecticut, making four saves for his third whitewash of
the season. He is second in the conference in goals against average
The regular season ends this Saturday for four fall sports (field hockey, volleyball, and men's and women's soccer), with the Little East Conference Tournaments set to be played out the first week of November.
