Five PSU student-athletes receive Little East Conference weekly honors

PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Five Plymouth State University student-athletes were recognized by the Little East Conference Monday for their efforts in the opening week of the regular season.

Sophomore Meghan Rodier (Francestown, N.H./ConVal) was named LEC Women's Tennis Player of the Week; sophomore Sarah Spears (Meredith, N.H./Inter-Lakes) and freshman Brianna Kleckner (Terryville, Conn.) were selected LEC Volleyball Defensive Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively; freshman Morgan Lemmon (Gilford, N.H./Bishop Brady) was named LEC Field Hockey Rookie of the Week; and freshman Morgan McQuaide (Westerly, R.I.) was selected LEC Women's Soccer Rookie of the Week.

A sophomore on the PSU tennis team, Rodier (left) won both her matches at #2 singles last week. She collected PSU's only win in an 8-1 loss to Colby-Sawyer on Thursday, and she won again in Saturday's 6-3 loss to Endicott. Rodier, who moved up in the Panther line-up after playing #6 singles last season, also played a pair of matches at #2 doubles last week, but was defeated in both encounters.

Spears, a sophomore defensive specialist, and Kleckner, a freshman setter, were instrumental in leading the PSU volleyball team to a 4-0 record and the team title at the Cobblestone Inn Invitational last weekend at Foley Gymnasium. Spears (right) was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player after collecting 78 digs in PSU's four matches (5.57 per game) while also chipping in with four service aces. Kleckner (far right) was named to the All-Tournament Team after registering 134 set assists in PSU's four matches (9.57 per game) while also contributing 13 service aces (0.93 per game), 33 digs (2.36 per game), five blocks and 16 kills.

A freshman forward, Lemmon (left) scored three goals in three games to help the PSU field hockey team to a 2-1 record to start the season. She recorded two goals in her collegiate debut, PSU's 6-3 season-opening win Wednesday at Castleton State, and scored PSU's only goal Saturday in a 2-1 LEC loss to UMass Dartmouth. She played but did not score in PSU's 3-2 overtime win Sunday at Lasell.

A freshman goalkeeper, McQuaide (right) recorded a 0.36 goals against average in her first three collegiate games, allowing only one goal in 247 minutes, recording one shutout and sharing another. She made two saves in the season opener Wednesday to earn a 3-0 shutout victory over Norwich, did not face a shot in 50 minutes in PSU's 8-0 shutout over Mitchell, and blanked Saint Joseph's College Sunday for the first 107 minutes until she finally surrendered her first goal of the season in PSU's 1-0 loss at Saint Joseph's.
