PSU Field Hockey comes up short at NEC

HENNIKER, N.H. - The New England College field hockey team picked up a non-conference win over in-state opponent Plymouth State University Wednesday afternoon, defeating the Panthers 3-1. The win improves NEC's overall record to 12-2 and drops visiting Plymouth State to 4-7 overall.

The two teams battled through a scoreless tie for much of the first half until NEC's Jodie Dresser (Keene, N.H.) broke the drought, scoring off a nice pass from Khatianna Evans (Wayne, Maine) at the 26:08 mark. NEC did not waste much time stretching its lead to two goals as just two minutes later, freshman Rebekah Cogswell (Bridgewater, Vt.) scored her second goal of the season, assisted by Dresser.

The Panthers offense out shot the Pilgrims in the second half 8-6, but Brittany Vogrin (Toronto, Ontario) scored NEC's third goal of the afternoon 15 minutes into the second half to put the hosts up 3-0. Plymouth State finally got on the board with just over six minutes left in the game when freshman Morgan Lemmon (Gilford, N.H.) scored her team-high eighth goal of the season, assist by Amanda Spadafora (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) The Pilgrims defense held off the late Panther surge and captured the victory.

Picking up the win in goal for NEC was Jacqui Parker (Keene, N.H.) who made 12 saves on the afternoon. In goal for Plymouth State was Katie Randall (Portsmouth, N.H.), who also finished with 12 stops.

NEC returns to action this Saturday when it travels to CCC opponent Salve Regina (1:00 p.m.) Plymouth State plays its fourth straight road game Saturday at LEC foe Bridgewater State (1:00 p.m.)
