Two PSU Field Hockey players named to All-Little East Conference Team
PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Two Plymouth State University field hockey players were honored Tuesday with selections to the All-Little East Conference Team for 2007. The All-LEC team is voted on by the league's 12 head coaches.
Panther seniors Katie Barany (Middlesex, Vt./U-32) and Leah Curtin (Londonderry, N.H./Londonderry) were named to the All-LEC Second Team. It is the first all-conference selection for both players.
A 5'1" midfielder, Barany (right) started all 18 games for
the Panthers, moving up from defense to midfield to help the
team. While continuing her strong defensive play, Barany also
contributed a goal and a team-leading four assists. Her only
goal was the game-winner with 10 minutes remaining in a 2-0 win
over Westfield State.
A 5'8" goalie, Curtin (left) started 11 and played in 12
of PSU's 18 games this season, posting an 8-4 record with three
shutouts. She currently leads the LEC in goals against
average (1.27) and is tied for second in shutouts.
The Panthers, 10-8 overall, are the eighth seed in this week's ECAC New England Tournament, with a first-round game set for Wednesday at LEC rival and top-seeded University of Southern Maine (2:00 p.m.) It is PSU's seventh post-season bid in the last eight years.
