NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. - Plymouth State University scored twice in the first half Saturday afternoon and went on to defeat the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, 2-0, in a Little East Conference field hockey game at Cressy Field.
Junior Sarah Smith (Lexington, Mass.) and senior Ashley Gutowski (Conway, N.H.) each scored for the Panthers in the first half. The Panthers out shot the Corsairs, 14-8, although UMass Dartmouth had a 9-2 edge in penalty corners. Golden made four saves for UMD, while freshman Elyse Sedgley (Hopkinton, N.H.) made six for PSU to record her third straight shutout victory.
Plymouth State improved to 3-2 and 2-0 in conference play, while UMass Dartmouth dropped to 4-2 and 1-1 in the LEC. The Corsairs will return to action when they visit the University of New England Wednesday evening. The Panthers visit Western Connecticut next Saturday for a 6:00 p.m. LEC contest.
