Two post-season honors for PSU Field Hockey player

PLYMOUTH, N.H. - One of the top players on the Plymouth State University field hockey team was honored Monday with a pair of post-season honors from the National Field Hockey Coaches Association.

Senior forward Ashley Gutowski (Conway, N.H./Kennett) was named a New England West Region Second Team All-Star for the 2008 season.  In addition, Gutowski was invited to play in the prestigious Division III Senior All-Star Game this Sunday, Nov. 23, at Ursinus College in Collegeville, Pa. The game is slated for 9:30 a.m., prior to the Division III national championship game.

Gutowski (right) has had an outstanding season for the Panthers, earning First Team All-Little East Conference honors.  She is one of the top scorers in the LEC, accumulating 42 points on 15 goals and 12 assists.  She leads the team in assists and points, and her 12 assists is the second-most in a season in PSU history, behind only the 14 that Caitlin Moran had in 2004.

PSU, 15-7 overall, has one important game remaining this season, the ECAC New England Tournament Championship game at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 18, at top-seeded Endicott College in Beverly, Mass.  The second-seeded Panthers earned a spot in the title game with a 5-1 victory over third-seeded Westfield State College on Sunday.
