Endicott rallies past Plymouth State Field Hockey
Gulls spoil Panther season opener
PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Sophomore Hannah Thornberg (Oakland, Maine.) scored a pair of second-half goals Saturday afternoon as Endicott College rallied past Plymouth State University, 3-1, in non-conference college field hockey action at Arold Field.
Thornberg tallied both goals about five minutes apart early in the second half to help the Gulls overcome a 1-0 halftime deficit. Endicott went on to even its record at 1-1 on the season, while PSU falls to 0-1.
Junior Christina Parisi (Hampton Falls, N.H./Winnacunnet) scored the only goal of the first half 13 minutes into the game, dribbling through the Endicott defense and firing a shot from the right side into the lower left corner of the goal. The home team had a 5-2 advantage in shots in the first half but tallied just one goal.
Endicott tied the score at 1-1 eight minutes into the second half when Thornberg, who was near the left goal post, redirected a shot from the top of the circle by senior Cara Hanrahan (Franklin, Tenn.) just inside the post. Thornberg collected a loose ball five minutes later and found the back of the net again at the 48:55 mark to put the Gulls ahead, 2-1. Freshman Stacie Teevans (Westborough, Mass.) added an insurance marker with 3:41 remaining, her first career goal for the Gulls.
The visitors outshot the home team 9-6 in the second half, making the total shots in the game even at 11 each. Sophomore goalie Taylor Teixeira (Exeter, N.H.) made eight saves to record the victory in the Endicott cage, while sophomore Hilary Lemelin (Milan, N.H.) made four saves for PSU.
Plymouth State makes its first road trip of the year Wednesday for a visit to Castleton State College (4:00 p.m.). Endicott plays its home opener Wednesday against SUNY New Paltz (4:00 p.m.)
