Little East Conference honors for PSU student-athletes

Panthers honored in field hockey and women’s soccer

            PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Three Plymouth State University student-athletes were honored with top honors from the Little East Conference on Monday for their performances in several Panther victories last week.

            Sophomore Hilary Lemelin (Milan, N.H./Berlin) and freshman Jackie Morin (Scarborough, Maine) were honored in field hockey, Lemelin as the LEC Goalie of the Week and Morin as the LEC Rookie of the Week; and junior Sam Laliberte (Concord, N.H.) was selected LEC Women’s Soccer Co-Offensive Player of the Week, sharing the honor with Keene State College’s Katie Bradford.

            A 5’8” goalkeeper, Lemelin (right) recorded a 0.86 goals against average and a .895 save percentage to backstop Plymouth State to a pair of Little East victories last week. She helped PSU limit rival Keene State to two goals below its season average (3.09) in the Panthers 3-1 victory, and she made a season-high 15 stops in Plymouth State’s 2-1 overtime victory over Westfield State on Saturday. Lemelin ranks fourth in the LEC in goals against average (1.53) and tied for fourth with two shutouts.

            A 5’10” forward, Morin (left) scored two key goals as Plymouth State defeated Keene State and Westfield State last week in Little East action. She netted an insurance marker in Tuesday’s victory over Keene State and she registered the decisive goal in overtime against Westfield State to keep the Panthers’ just one-game back in the conference race for the top seed. Morin is now fourth on the team in scoring with five goals and two assists.

            A 5’6” midfielder, Laliberte (right) provided the offensive spark for Plymouth State with six goals for 12 points, including a pair of game-winners, in a 2-1 week for the Panthers. She scored four goals in Saturday’s 5-2 conference win over Rhode Island College after netting a pair of markers in a 4-0 non-conference victory over Lyndon State. Laliberte now leads the Panthers in scoring with eight goals and 16 points and ranks sixth in the LEC in goals and seventh in points.

            The Panther field hockey team, 8-3 overall and 6-1 in the LEC, hosts Springfield in a non-conference match-up Wednesday at 4:00 p.m.  The Panther women’s soccer squad, 5-7 overall and 1-3 in Little East games, plays a pair of road matches this week, beginning Wednesday at Castleton.
