Bergeron represents Panthers on prestigious team
PLYMOUTH, N.H. – One of the captains on the Plymouth State University field hockey team has been honored for her successful accomplishments in the classroom as well as on the field.
Junior Lauren Bergeron (New Hampton, N.H./Newfound) has been named to the Capital One Academic All-District Team, as selected by CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America). Bergeron was voted to the Academic All-District 1 Second Team (At-Large) in the College Division.
A three-year starter at midfield for the Panther field hockey squad, Bergeron started every game for PSU in 2010, finishing with five goals, seven assists and 17 points. She ranked second on the team in assists and fourth in points. Bergeron was selected Second Team All-Little East Conference, and led the Panthers to a 14-7 overall record and the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) New England Championship.
In the classroom, Bergeron is a Spanish major and has been named to the PSU President’s List all five of her semesters for having a grade point average greater than 3.8. She is a member of two academic honor societies, and has served as president of the World Language Society. She has been a Spanish tutor and spent this past semester volunteering as an English teacher in Costa Rica.
To be eligible for the Capital One Academic All-America program, student-athletes must be a starter or important reserve with legitimate athletic credentials and maintain at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale). He/she must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing and must have completed at least one full academic year at that institution. Academic All-District First Team selections advance to the national ballot for Academic All-America honors.
