Plymouth State Field Hockey blanks Salem State

Colborn leads Panther offense, Lemelin posts shutout

            SALEM, Mass. – Junior Olivia Colborn registered a goal and an assist Saturday afternoon as Plymouth State University kept its outstanding season going with a 3-0 victory over Salem State University in Little East Conference field hockey action.

            The Panthers have won five in a row to improve their record to 12-1 overall and 7-1 in Little East games.  The host Vikings sink to 5-8 overall and 1-7 in the conference.

            Senior Christina Parisi gave Plymouth State an early 1-0 lead, with an assist from classmate Lauren Bergeron.  Colborn later increased the Panthers' lead to 2-0 when she scored an unassisted goal in the 30th minute.

            Plymouth State dominated play, keeping constant pressure on the Vikings' defense while outshooting Salem State 12-2 in the first half and 24-8 for the game.  Sophomore Jackie Morin notched her team-leading 12th goal of the season in the 63rd minute to close out the scoring.

            Junior Hilary Lemelin picked up the win in net as she recorded three saves for her fifth shutout of the season. Michaela Boyer made 11 saves for Salem State.

            Both teams play conference games on Wednesday, with PSU traveling to Framingham State and Salem State hosting Bridgewater State.
