Field Hockey pulls out win over NEC

Carroll scored game-winning goal for Panthers

HENNIKER, N.H. – Junior Lauren Carroll (Rollinsford, N.H.) scored the go-ahead goal with just over 10 minutes remaining Tuesday afternoon and Plymouth State University went on to a 3-1 victory over New England College  in non-conference field hockey action.

PSU (3-1) scored the only goal of the opening half in the 15th minute as sophomore Emily Davis (Boscawen, N.H.) scored on a rebound of her own shot.  The Panther offense continued to dominate the first half, spraying 19 shots over the 35 minutes but the Pilgrims defense held strong as keeper Courtney Duquette (Enfield, N.H.) turned away 13 shots and the defense came through with four defensive saves.

The Pilgrims (1-3) broke the scoring drought just two minutes into the second half as senior Jennifer Adams (Brimfield, Mass.) put in a pass from Alicia Bartosik (Hoosick Falls, N.Y.), knotting the game at 1-1.

The Panthers regained the lead in the 59th minute when Carroll put in a rebound that ricocheted off the post, recording her second goal of the season.  PSU tacked on an additional goal with just 45 seconds remaining as a shot by freshman Morgan Ouellette-Foss (Dayton, Maine) from outside the circle would get redirected by an NEC defender inside the arc, which was officially scored as a PSU own goal.

Picking up the win in goal for Plymouth State was Hilary Lemelin (Milan, N.H.) who finished with two saves.  Having an impressive afternoon in net for NEC was Duquette who accumulated 24 saves.

PSU returns home to host Little East Conference foe Worcester State University Saturday in the home opener at Arold Field (12 noon) while New England College returns to action on Friday when they open North Atlantic Conference play at Thomas College.
