PSU Field Hockey rolls past New England College

Wilder, Carroll lead high-scoring Panthers to non-conference win

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Freshman Kaitlyn Wilder (Framingham, Mass.) recorded a hat trick for the second straight game Tuesday afternoon to help the Plymouth State University field hockey team to a 9-1 victory over New England College in non-conference action at Arold Field.

Senior Lauren Caroll (Rollinsford, N.H.) scored two goals in the first four minutes of the game to stake the home team to an early lead and the Panthers never looked back.  After the teams traded goals in the next two minutes, Wilder tallied three goals in a row for the natural hat trick to extend PSU's margin to 6-1 midway through the opening half.

PSU went on to out-shoot the visitors by a wide margin.  The Panthers, who have scored 21 goals in their last three games, are now 2-3 overall while NEC slips to 1-7.

Wilder finished with three goals and an assist while senior Jackie Morin (Scarborough, Maine) chipped in with a goal and an assist. Junior Sam Carberry (Shrewsbury, Pa.) and senior Aisha Rai Thompson (Berlin, N.H.) added their first goals of the season, Thompson on a penalty stroke, to make it an 8-1 margin at halftime. Freshman Allison Lemay (Westbrook, Maine) tallied the only goal of the second half off a feed from classmate Nicole Burgess (Mexico, Maine).

The Pilgrims got their only goal in the first half from senior Elaine Armstrong (Littleton, N.H.) with an assist from classmate Kristen O'Connell (Melrose, Mass.)  Senior Courtney Duquette (Enfield, N.H.) made 17 saves in 55 minutes in the NEC goal while sophomore Marina Berger (Burlington, Vt.) stopped five shots in her 15-minute stint in the first half.

Both teams return to conference action on Saturday at noon as PSU hosts Western Connecticut State University in a Little East Conference match-up while NEC entertains Thomas College in a North Atlantic Conference tilt.
