Schmidt honored in Women's Soccer; Wilder in Field Hockey
PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Two Plymouth State University first-year student-athletes were honored by the Little East Conference Monday for their performances in several Panther games last week.
Freshman Annaliese Schmidt (Newmarket, N.H.) was named LEC Women's Soccer Goalkeeper of the Week, while classmate Kaitlyn Wilder (Framingham, Mass.) was named LEC Field Hockey Rookie of the Week. Wilder is a repeat selection for LEC Weekly honors this season, while Schmidt is a first-time choice.
A 5'10" keeper, Schmidt led PSU to a 1-0 upset victory over Eastern Connecticut last Saturday in the women's soccer regular season finale. She made six saves in the victory to post her second shutout as PSU snapped a 14-game losing streak to Eastern Connecticut and knocked the Warriors out of a potential home-field advantage in the first round of the LEC Tournament.
Schmidt started all 18 games for PSU this season, posting a 6-12 record with a 2.18 goals against average, a .783 save percentage and two shutouts.
Wilder registered three goals and one assist in a 2-0 week for the Panther field hockey squad, including both game-winning goals. She scored the game-winner in overtime Wednesday in PSU's 4-3 non-conference win over Saint Joseph's College (Maine), and she tallied two goals and an assist Saturday in PSU's key 4-1 win over Bridgewater State that pulled the Panthers into a three-way tie for second place in the LEC.
Wilder has 14 goals and four assists for 32 points for PSU, ranking tied for sixth in the conference in goals and tied for eighth points.
