PSU Field Hockey gets past Castleton in suspended game

Burgess' goal holds up as Panthers take 1-0 win

NEW HAMPTON, N.H. – The Plymouth State University field hockey team completed a 1-0 non-conference victory over Castleton University Tuesday evening at the New Hampton School field, playing the final 26 minutes of a game that was suspended due to lightning last Wednesday.

Lightning halted the game last Wednesday with 25:43 on the clock, and the game resumed from that point on Tuesday. PSU out-shot the visitors 12-5 in Tuesday's play and 22-8 overall, but neither team was able to add to the score.

The only goal of the game was scored last Wednesday by junior Nicole Burgess (Mexico, Maine), who knocked in her own rebound just two minutes into the contest.

PSU sophomore goalie Alivia Bates (Pennsauken, N.J.) posted the shutout victory, making seven saves in the contest. Castleton keeper Meeghan Doris (New Milford, Conn.) finished with 17 saves in the setback.

Plymouth State returns to Little East Conference action Saturday with a trip to Framingham State University for a 4:00 p.m. match-up. Castleton returns home to host Kean University in a non-conference contest Sunday at 12 noon.
