Alumni Field, Salem, MA. – Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2016
Plymouth State 7, Salem State University 1
PSU 6-2 (5-1 LEC); SSU 1-7 (0-7)
- At 7:31, PSU scored the first of four unanswered goals as Katie Martin knocked home an unassisted goal. Less than a minute later, senior Kendal Lariviere (Dover, NH) scored unassisted for a 2-0 lead. Martin and Kaitlyn Wilder (Framingham, MA) scored back-to-back goals before freshman Kaitlynn Palmer (Verona, NY) broke the string with a score for Salem State in the 25th minute.
- In the second, Martin completed the hat-trick at 55:13, scoring her seventh goal of the season to increase the lead for the Panthers to 5-1. The game ended 7-1 on a late goal by freshman Kaihley Rafferty (Salem, CT).
- Strong defense from the Panthers kept the Spartans in check for the afternoon with the best offensive opportunity coming at the 21-minute mark of the second half when Wells and Cydney Jeffrey pierced through the Panthers defense for a two-on-one into the goal. The pass from Wells, however, was deflected in front of the goal and quickly cleared by the Panthers defender to end the threat.
- Overall, Salem State was outshot by a 49-5 margin. Senior Maddy Beatrice (Newton, MA) made her first start in goal for the Panthers and made one save in the victory. Carolyn Woodin (Arlington, MA) made 34 saves, despite allowing all seven of PSU's goals.
Next game for Plymouth State is when they host Worcester State at 1:00pm. For the Vikings, they host Eastern Conn State on Saturday October 1st at 12:00pm.
