PSU Field Hockey player named to All-Rookie Team

Wakefield honored by Synapse Sports after stellar rookie campaign 

            PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Synapse Sports has announced its annual post season field hockey award winners and Plymouth State University freshman Hayley Wakefield (South Paris, Maine) was among those honored with inclusion on the All-Rookie Team.

            The Synapse Sports staff selected an All-American Team, All-Rookie Squad and Player, Rookie and Coach of the Year for each of the three NCAA divisions. The All-Rookie Team was comprised of 16 freshmen from across the nation. Wakefield was one of two representatives from the Little East Conference, along with Keene State freshman Nina Bruno.

            Wakefield had a stellar rookie season for the Panthers, making an immediate impact on the field. The 5-4 forward led the Panthers with 16 goals and 32 points. Her 16 tallies were the 11th most in a season all-time and second most for a freshman in PSU history. Her 0.89 goals per game were the fourth most among freshmen nationwide.

            Wakefield was one of just 16 freshmen nationally to earn Longstretch/National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division III All-Region Team recognition after being named to the New England West Region Second Team. She was also selected to the All-LEC First Team, while earning LEC Rookie of the Week honors twice during the season.
