Distler selected as Goalkeeper of the Week
PLYMOUTH, N.H. – The starting goalkeeper for the Plymouth State University field hockey team was honored by the Little East Conference (LEC) following an outstanding performance in goal last week.
Sophomore Jess Distler (Brookfield, N.H.) was chosen as the LEC Field Hockey Goalkeeper of the Week, her second of the season, after leading the Panthers to a 1-1 week.
Distler was impressive in Saturday's 3-2 shootout win over Westfield State in a game the Panthers needed to win to keep their playoff hopes alive. After surrendering two first half goals, she shut the door with seven saves between the second half and overtime period. With the score deadlocked at 2-2 the game went to a penalty shootout, where Distler stopped all four Owls' attempts while the PSU shooters made three of their first four to earn the win. She finished with 11 overall saves, not including the four shootout stops.
She added an eight-save performance in Tuesday's 2-1 setback at Southern Maine.
Distler's .760 save percentage ranks third in the Little East, while her 98 saves are the fourth highest total in the league.
PSU wraps up the regular season with a pair of contests this week. The Panthers host St. Joseph's College (Maine) at the New Hampton School this afternoon (4:00 p.m.) for Senior Day, before heading to Worcester State for an LEC game that will determine the Panthers' postseason fate on Saturday (Oct. 27) at noon.
