Panthers earn National Academic Team Award

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – The Plymouth State University field hockey team was honored by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) for its outstanding work in the classroom as the organization announced recipients of the 2019 Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA Division III National Academic Team Award today.

Plymouth State was one of 147 programs nationwide to receive the honor. The Division III National Academic Team Award recognizes programs that earned a team grade point average of 3.00 or higher during the fall semester of the 2019-20 school year.

PSU earns the recognition for a sixth straight season and the tenth time since the award was established in the 2003-04 academic year. The Panthers are joined by nine other Little East Conference (LEC) institutions in receiving the honor and matches Eastern Connecticut State University for the longest active streak of six consecutive years.

Led by 20th-year head coach Bonnie Lord the Panthers finished 8-10 overall and 6-6 in the LEC, earning the seventh seed for the LEC Tournament. PSU fell at second-seeded Keene State, 4-0, in the opening round. Lord earned her 250th career victory following a 3-0 win over Fitchburg State on Sept. 21.
