PSC Men's Basketball forward recognized

PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Plymouth State College basketball player Tony Martinez (Barnstead, NH) was selected Player of the Week by the Little East Conference, one week after being named to the Weekly Honor Roll.

Martinez averaged just over 22 points and 8.5 rebounds in a 1-1 week in which the Panthers lost 76-70 to Salem State, and defeated Eastern Connecticut 81-77. He also shot .575 (17-for-33) from the field, and .692 (9-of-13) from the foul line. He has led the Panthers in scoring in all five contests this season.

A junior forward, Martinez is currently averaging 19.0 points per game, ranking second among LEC players.

The Panthers now 4-1 on the season look to improve their record Tuesday night (Dec. 7) when they take on Rivier College at 7:00 p.m. in Nashua. PSC returns home this Thursday (Dec.9) to face a tough Bridgewater State team (7:30 p.m.) at Foley Gymnasium.

Panther Notes: Senior Shannon Gallagher (Plymouth, NH) leads the team in rebounding 9.0 per game and is among the leaders in the LEC. He also has a team high .510 shooting percentage... Gallagher reached the 1,000-point milestone with a pair of three-pointers in the opening minutes against ECSU. Gallagher scored 699 points for Norwich from 1995-97, and has 312 for the Panthers for a career total of 1,011.
