PSC Men's Hoop downs RIC to win second straight
PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Plymouth State College's men's basketball team won for the second straight outing Saturday afternoon, bringing home a 79-66 Little East Conference victory from Rhode Island College.
The victory improves PSC to 11-9 overall and 4-6 in the LEC, while RIC drops to 3-17 and 3-7. The Panthers will try to get back into contention for a home court advantage in the opening round of the LEC Tournament with a key conference affair Tuesday (Feb. 8) at Keene State (7:30 p.m.).
PSC junior Tony Martinez (Barnstead, NH), who has led the Panthers in scoring 17 times in 20 games this season, erupted for a career-high 31 points, while matching his career-best with 13 rebounds. He connected on 15-of-24 field goal attempts, and pulled down eight boards off the offensive glass. Martinez has scored at least 20 points in eight straight games and 11 of the last 12.
Supporting Martinez for the Panthers freshman Dan Craig (Chelmsford, Mass.) with 11 points and senior JaModi Robinson (Framingham, MA) with 10. Sophomore Jason Blackburn (Hudson, Mass.) and freshman Mark Dunham (Derry, NH) each contributed eight points.
The Anchormen were led by Ken Payette, who scored 24 points, and Peter Mollo, who added 12.
After Tuesday's clash at Keene State, PSC returns home next Saturday (Feb. 12) to entertain UMass Boston in an LEC clash (3 p.m.).
