PSC takes third in Panther Tip-Off Tourney

PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Senior Tony Martinez (Barnstead, N.H.) scored his 1,000th career point and earned All-Tournament Team honors over the weekend as Plymouth State College's men's basketball team placed third in the Panther Tip-Off Classic.

The Panthers were knocked off by Lasell College 92-77 in Friday night's opener, but came back to down Thomas College (Maine) in the Saturday's consolation game, 109-70. Lasell went on to defeat Roger Williams 84-78 in the championship game to win the tournament title.

Martinez scored 26 points on 11-of-16 shooting in the opener to lead the Panthers. He hit a three-pointer late in the first half to go over the 1,000-point mark for his career, the 16th player in school history to reach the milestone. Martinez came back with a 23-point, nine-rebound effort in the consolation game as the Panthers ran away with the victory.

Plymouth State also got strong performances from junior center Jason Blackburn (Hudson, Mass.), sophomore guard Dan Craig (Chelmsford, Mass.) and senior forward Warren Ostler (Morrisville, Vt.). Blackburn contributed 15 points and eight rebounds in the Lasell game and added 21 points and 11 boards against Thomas. He connected on 14-of-20 from the floor, including 7-of-8 in the consolation game. Craig reached double figures in scoring in both games, registering 13 points the first night and adding 10 on Saturday. Ostler recorded career-highs in scoring and rebounds against Thomas College, hitting 7-of-10 field goals for 17 points and a game-high 14 boards.

PSC, 1-1, returns to action on Thursday, Nov. 30, with a non-conference battle at Salem State.
