More LEC Honors for Blackburn
PLYMOUTH, N.H. - The starting center on the Plymouth State College men's basketball team has been recognized by the Little East Conference for his performance in three Panther games last week.
Junior Jason Blackburn (Hudson, Mass.) was selected to this week's LEC Honor Roll. It is the second consecutive week that Blackburn has been a member of the Conference Weekly Honor Roll.
A 6'5" center, Blackburn turned in a monster performance last Tuesday to highlight an outstanding all-around week. He registered career-highs with 30 points and 21 rebounds in a 57-53 victory over Southern Maine. For the week, Blackburn averaged 23.7 points and 12.7 rebounds as the Panthers went 2-1, including a big 92-74 decision Saturday over Western Connecticut.
Blackburn shot 53.8 percent from the field, canning 28 of his 52 field goal attempts. He also added six assists, five blocked shots and a pair of steals. He has scored in double figures in 16 of 17 games this season, and has shot at least 50 percent from the floor in 11 of those outings.
The powerful center has teamed with senior forward Tony Martinez (Barnstead, N.H.) to give PSC one of the best 1-2 punches in the conference. Blackburn ranks sixth in the conference in scoring (17.4 ppg), third in rebounding (8.4 rpg) and field goal percentage (.552), eighth in free throw percentage (.740), and second in blocked shots (1.8 bpg).
The Panthers, 9-9 overall and alone in fourth place in the LEC at 4-4, return to action Saturday (Feb. 3) with an LEC contest at Rhode Island College (3 p.m.)
