PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Two Plymouth State College basketball players were named to the Little East Conference All-Tournament Teams following the championship games on Saturday.
Senior Tony Martinez (Barnstead, N.H.) was selected to the LEC Men's All-Tournament Team, and junior Megan Fournier (East Waterboro, Maine) was voted onto the Women's All-Tournament Team. Both PSC teams won a first-round game at home last Tuesday before being eliminated in the semi-finals Friday on the road by a higher-seeded team.
A 6'3" forward, Martinez registered 13 points and seven rebounds in the 94-90 victory over Eastern Connecticut in Tuesday's first-round game, and added a team-high 23 points in the 75-60 semi-final loss Friday to eventual champion UMass Dartmouth, hitting four-of-five from three-point range. Martinez also recorded three assists and four steals in the tournament.
A 5'8" guard, Fournier scored 12 points in both tournament games, a 70-63 first-round victory over Rhode Island College Tuesday at Foley Gymnasium and a 72-65 semi-final defeat Friday against eventual champion Southern Maine. Fournier also added five rebounds, seven assists and six steals in the tournament.
The semi-final loss by the Panther men left the team with a 14-12 overall record, while the women's loss snapped a school-record-tying nine-game winning streak and dropped the Panthers to 19-7 overall. Both PSC squads are hoping for an ECAC New England Tournament berth when the invitations are announced on Monday (Feb. 26).
