Panthers down Johnson State
JOHNSON, Vt. - Freshman guard Nick Pelotte (Bingham, Maine) scored a team-high 20 points Tuesday night to lead Plymouth State College's men's basketball team to an 88-84 non-conference victory over Johnson State College at Carter Gymnasium.
Pelotte hit 11 of 14 from the line and four of six field goals attempts, including his only three-point shot. He helped PSC improve to 2-1 on the young season.
The Panthers also got 16 points and eight rebounds from senior Jason Blackburn (Hudson, Mass.); 13 points, five boards and five assists from junior Kenny Stewart (Londonderry, N.H.); 10 points and 14 rebounds from sophomore Ryan Chicoine (Gorham, Maine); and 10 points and six boards from junior Donnelle Combs (Mitchellville, Md.).
Junior Patrick Glover led the Badgers with 35 points and nine rebounds. Junior Lee Zolotas and freshman Billy Durbrow were the only other Badgers to score in double figures, adding 15 and 11 points, respectively.
The Panthers return to action with the first two home games of the season on Thursday, Nov. 29th, against Salem State (8:00 p.m.) and the Little East Conference opener on Saturday, Dec. 1st, vs. UMass Dartmouth (3:00 p.m.). Salem State and UMass Dartmouth were the top two teams in New England last season.
