Blackburn scores 1000th as PSC rolls past UNE

BIDDEFORD, Maine - Senior Jason Blackburn (Hudson, Mass.) scored 23 points Thursday night, including the 1,000th of his career, as the Plymouth State College men's basketball team picked up a non-conference road win with a 109-77 decision at the University of New England.

Blackburn becomes the 17th men's player in school history to reach the 1,000-point milestone. He now has 1,011 points, and with three regular season games remaining plus post-season, the senior co-captain could move up on the PSC all-time list.

Blackburn was one of six Panthers to score in double figures as they shot 56 percent from the field, including 46 percent from three-point range (11-of-24). PSC, which had a 51-37 rebounding advantage, led by 26 at halftime and coasted home with the win.

Freshman guard Nick Pelotte (Bingham, Maine) turned in season-highs with 21 point and eight assists, hitting 8-of-12 shots from the field. Sophomore Frankie Finklea (Dorchester, Mass.) added 18 points, and sophomore Harold Roy (East Boston, Mass.), junior Ryan Chicoine (Gorham, Maine) and sophomore Mike Loughlin (Manchester, N.H.) contributed 13, 12 and 11 points, respectively.

UNE, 7-14, was led by Nyaten Gaye, who scored 20 points, and Ricky Sirois, who added 18.

Plymouth State, 13-8 overall, returns home for a Saturday home game against Little East Conference foe University of Massachusetts Boston (3:00 p.m.).
