Finklea and Blackburn named All-LEC

PLYMOUTH, N.H. - The top two players on the Plymouth State College men's basketball team have earned All-Little East Conference honors for the 2001-02 season, as voted by the league's eight head coaches.

Sophomore Frankie Finklea (Dorchester, Mass.) was one of six players selected First Team All-LEC, and senior Jason Blackburn (Hudson, Mass.) was named to the All-LEC Second Team. Finklea earns all-conference honors this season after receiving the LEC Rookie of the Year award last season, while Blackburn was a Second Team pick for the second straight year.

A 6'3" forward, Finklea was one of the top offensive players in the conference, averaging 14.5 points a game and making a team-high 45 three-pointers. He is also one of the top free throw shooters, connecting at a .729 clip. Finklea led PSC in scoring nine times this season, including an 18-point, 10-rebound performance in PSC's LEC Tournament win over Eastern Connecticut, and he was twice named to the LEC Weekly Honor Roll.

A 6'5" forward, Blackburn was sixth in the conference in scoring (15.0 ppg) and fourth in rebounding (8.0 rpg). He also ranked fifth in field goal percentage (.487) and second in free throw percentage (.808). Earlier this month, Blackburn became the 17th men's player in school history to go over the 1,000-point milestone, and he is currently 10th on PSC's career list with 1,090 points. He was a three-time selection to the LEC Weekly Honor Roll this season. Finklea and Blackburn were two of the five Panthers who averaged scoring in double figures. They helped PSC to a 16-10 overall record heading into this week's ECAC New England Tourmament.

The Panthers tied for fourth in the LEC during the regular season, and advanced to the semifinals of the conference tournament before being eliminated by top-seeded Keene State. PSC received the fourth seed in this week's ECAC Tournament, and will host fifth seeded Roger Williams on Wednesday at Foley Gymnasium (8:00 p.m.). The winner advances to a Saturday semi-final contest against the survivor of the game between top-seeded Keene State and eighth-seeded Fitchburg State.
