PSC opens with win over Fisher College
FARMINGTON, Maine - Sophomore Nick Pelotte (Bingham, Maine) scored a career-high 30 points Friday night to lead Plymouth State College's men's basketball team to a 90-77 victory over Fisher College in the opening game of the University of Maine Farmington Tournament.
The Panthers will advance to the tournament title game Saturday at 4:00 p.m. against host UMaine Farmington. The Beavers moved on with an 83-72 win over Colby-Sawyer College in the tournament's other first-round contest.
Pelotte connected on 10-of-19 from the field to lead the Panthers, including 5-of-10 from three-point range. His previous career high was 21 points at the University of New England last February. Sophomore Anthony Oglesby (Brooklyn, N.Y.) made the most of his Panther debut, hitting 11-of-14 shots from the floor and finishing with 24 points, 10 rebounds and four assists.
PSC also got eight points and eight assists from senior co-captain Kenny Stewart (Londonderry, N.H.) and seven points, eight assists and five rebounds from sophomore Matt Budrow (Round Pond, Maine).
Fisher had a 53-38 rebounding advantage over the Panthers, but PSC shot 57.1 percent from the field while Fisher was hitting at a 33.8 percent clip. PSC led by only three points at the break (51-48) before pulling away in the second half.
