Pelotte earns LEC Honor for third time
PLYMOUTH, N.H. - For the third time in four weeks, the leading scorer on the Plymouth State College men's basketball team has received the top weekly honor from the Little East Conference.
Sophomore Nick Pelotte (Bingham, Maine) was named LEC Player of the Week Monday after his two-game performance helped PSC improve to 7-1 overall heading into the semester break. The Panthers are also 2-0 in conference play, and are one of 10 teams receiving early-season recognition by the NCAA Northeast Region committee.
A 5'10" guard, Pelotte averaged 25.0 points and 5.5 rebounds as PSC defeated Tufts and Eastern Connecticut in its only two outings. He connected on 53.1 percent from the field (17-of-32), including 50 percent from three-point range (5-of-10). Pelotte drained 11-of-18 shots en route to 34 points last Monday at Tufts, his fourth 30-point effort of the season. He came back with 16 points, six rebounds and four assists in Saturday's victory over ECSU.
Pelotte ranks among the LEC leaders in five of the eight statistical categories. He is first in scoring (24.4 ppg), third in steals (2.3 spg) and 3-point field goal percentage (.455), fifth in free throw percentage (.787), and ninth in assists (3.3 apg).
Several other Panthers are among the LEC leaders. Sophomore forward Anthony Oglesby (Brooklyn, N.Y.) is fourth in scoring (16.5 ppg), seventh in rebounding (7.3 rpg), first in field goal percentage (.614) and fifth in steals (2.1 spg). Senior guard Kenny Stewart (Londonderry, N.H.) is second in assists (6.3 apg), sophomore J.J. Truman (Enfield, N.H.) is fourh in 3-point field goal percentage (.450), and freshman Kevin Boutilier (North Andover, Mass.) is seventh in field goal percentage (.542).
After a break for final exams and the holidays, the Panthers are back in action on Tuesday, Dec. 31, with a non-conference game at Florida Gulf Coast University in Ft. Myers, Fla. (3:30 p.m.).
