PSC stopped by WCSU

DANBURY, Conn. - A second-half rally came up short Saturday afternoon as Plymouth State College was edged by Western Connecticut State University, 87-83, in a Little East Conference men's basketball game at WCSU's Feldman Arena.

The Colonials, the defending LEC Tournament champions, remain unbeaten in conference play this season (3-0) while improving to 7-4 overall. PSC, which had won five of its last six outings, drops to 9-3 overall and 2-1 in the LEC.

Western held a 43-39 advantage at halftime, but PSC came out strong in the second half to take the lead. The hosts held off the Panther surge and hit key baskets down the stretch to pull out the win.

Junior Marvin Evans (Stratford, Conn.) led the Colonials with 21 points, hitting 10-of-19 from the floor. Senior Casey Bock (Danbury, Conn.) added 12 points, and junior Michael Wilson (Glastonbury, Conn.) came off the bench to provide 11 points. Freshman Jason Barnett (Windsor, Conn.) collected 12 rebounds to help Western to a 41-34 advantage on the boards.

The Panthers were led in scoring by sophomore Nick Pelotte (Bingham, Maine), who had 23 points but suffered 10 turnovers. Freshman center Kevin Boutilier (North Andover, Mass.) finished with a career-high 20 points after converting 9-of-13 shots from the field. Senior Kenny Stewart (Londonderry, N.H.) added 19 points, and sophomore Anthony Oglesby (Brooklyn, N.Y.) scored 12 points and grabbed 11 rebounds.
