PSU Mens Hoop cruises past Castleton State
PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Juniors Anthony Oglesby (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Nick Pelotte (Bingham, Maine) and senior Mike Loughlin (Manchester, N.H./West) combined for 49 points Tuesday night, leading the Plymouth State University men's basketball team to a 90-66 non-conference victory over Castleton State in PSU's home opener at Foley Gymnasium.
Pelotte finished with 20 points and seven rebounds and Loughlin ended up with 15 points, both players hitting three baskets from three-point range. Oglesby added 14 points and eight boards, as all three Panther leaders played only 19 minutes in the game.
Plymouth State had a double-digit lead (13-3) less than three minutes into the game, and had a 22-point advantage (31-9) with seven minutes to go in the half. It was a 22-point margin at the break (45-23), and the Spartans never got closer than 20 points in the second half.
Freshman Andreas Pope (Brooklyn, N.Y.) came off the bench to contribute 10 points and six boards for the Panthers. The lopsided score allowed PSU to empty the bench, as all 18 players on the team got into the game.
Junior Ray Daley (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and senior Sean Manovill (Bomoseen, Vt.) led the Spartans with 14 and 13 points, respectively.
Plymouth State, 3-0, plays again next Tuesday (Dec. 2) in the Jacob's Bridge Through Autism Classic, hosted by N.H. Technical Institute in Concord, N.H. The Panthers will meet New England College in the first game at 5:30 p.m., with Keene State battling Colby-Sawyer College in the nightcap (7:30 p.m.). The Spartans, 0-3, return to play next Tuesday at Middlebury (7:30 p.m.).
