PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Senior Kamran Alemdar (Stockholm, Sweden) scored a game-high 17 points and junior Jason Harris (Bedford, Mass.) added 15 points and 12 rebounds Thursday night, leading Rhode Island College to a 78-72 upset victory over Plymouth State University in a battle of Little East Conference rivals at The Murray Center.
The hosts, which overcame an 11-point first-half deficit, clawed their way back and snapped a three-game losing skid, improving to 6-10 overall and 3-3 in the Little East. PSU, which won 13 of its first 14 games this season, dropped its second in a row and fell to 13-3 overall and 4-2 in conference play.
The game was a make-up from the Dec. 6 match-up, which was postponed due to snow. The two teams will meet again this Saturday at Foley Gymnasium in a regularly-scheduled contest (3:00 p.m.).
Alemdar hit 6-of-10 field goal attempts and Harris was good on 6-of-11, with each player sinking three three-point baskets. Freshman Kamari Williams (Springfield, Mass.) chipped in with 12 points and a team-high five assists for the Anchormen.
Plymouth State got a team-high 16 points from junior Nick Pelotte (Bingham, Maine), while freshman Andreas Pope (Brooklyn, N.Y.) contributed 14 points and nine boards off the bench after connecting on six of his seven shots. Junior Anthony Oglesby (Brooklyn, N.Y.) was 5-for-7 and sophomore Kevin Boutilier (North Andover, Mass.) 5-for-6 to finish with 12 and 10 points, respectively.
