PSU Men’s Basketball standout named Little East Player of the Week

PLYMOUTH, N.H. - One of the standouts on the Plymouth State University men's basketball team was recognized by the Little East Conference Monday for his performance in PSU's only game last week.

Sophomore forward Andreas Pope (Brooklyn, N.Y.) has been selected LEC Men's Basketball Player of the Week after reaching career highs in a 97-86 Panther victory last Tuesday at Castleton State. After a terrific rookie campaign, Pope has picked up this season from where he left off last winter, when he was one of the top players in the LEC.

A 6'1" forward, Pope reached career highs with 28 points and 13 rebounds in 29 minutes Tuesday against Castleton State as the Panthers captured the rematch of last year's NCAA Tournament First-round game. He drained 12-of-14 from the floor and added a blocked shot and a team-high five assists. Pope led the LEC in field goal percentage last season when he connected on a school-record 61.1 percent of his shots.

Pope and the Panthers are back in action Tuesday (Nov. 30) at the annual Jacob's Bridge Through Autism Classic, hosted by the New Hampshire Technical Institute in Concord.  PSU will meet Colby-Sawyer at 7:30 p.m., following the 5:30 p.m. match-up between Keene State and New England College.

After a non-conference doubleheader Thursday (Dec. 2) at Salem State College (women at 6:00 p.m., men at 8:00 p.m.), PSU's basketball teams begin Little East action this Saturday (Dec. 4) in the home opener at Foley Gymnasium against Rhode Island College (women at 1:00 p.m., men at 3:00 p.m.).
