PSU Mens Basketball stays unbeaten with win over Colby-Sawyer
CONCORD, N.H. - Senior Devin Ruocco (Dover, N.H.) scored 24 points and freshman Mike Chergey (Bow, N.H.) recorded his first career double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds Tuesday evening as the Plymouth State University men's basketball team downed Colby-Sawyer College, 86-77, in the Jacob's Bridge Through Autism Classic at N.H. Technical Institute.
PSU remains unbeaten on the young season (4-0), while Colby-Sawyer drops to 1-4.
All five Plymouth State starters scored in double figures as sophomore guard Ben Huntington (Hampstead, N.H.) added 15 points and eight assists, senior Mike Walcek (Dover, N.H.) was good for 12 points, and junior Phil Bourassa (Old Orchard Beach, Maine) contributed 11 points and seven assists.
Colby-Sawyer's Andrew Cousins (South Portland, Maine) led all scorers with 26 point, while senior guard Nate Truncellito (Manchester, N.H) chipped in with 13 points and eight rebounds.
A tight first half of action saw eight lead changes and the Panthers holding a six-point margin (39-33) after 20 minutes. After PSU built its largest lead (72-60) in the second half with 6:19 remaining, the Chargers fought back but could come no closer than five points the rest of the way.
Plymouth State returns to the court on Thursday with a non-conference game at Salem State (8:00 p.m.). The Chargers will be back in action on Saturday in the Commonwealth Coast Conference opener at Roger Williams (3:00 p.m.).
