PLYMOUTH, N.H. - The head men's basketball coach at Plymouth State University may look a little strange on the sideline at this Saturday's game at Western Connecticut State University.
Panther head coach John Scheinman will be wearing his usual coat and tie, but this Saturday will also be wearing sneakers. He is participating in a nationwide campaign - the 2009 Coaches vs. Cancer Suits and Sneakers Awareness Weekend.
The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC), in conjunction with the American Cancer Society, is encouraging member coaches and their staff to wear sneakers with their suits this weekend to show support for the Coaches vs. Cancer program. Suits and Sneakers unite coaches from all divisions across the country in the common effort to raise cancer awareness in their communities.
Coaches vs. Cancer is a nationwide collaboration between the American Cancer Society and the NABC that empowers basketball coaches, their teams, and communities to join the fight against cancer. Since the program's inception in 1993, high school and basketball coaches across the United States have raised nearly $45 million to support the Society's efforts to save lives from cancer.
