PLYMOUTH, N.H. - A pair of Plymouth State University student-athletes were honored by the Little East Conference on Monday for their performances in Panther uniforms last week.
Freshman Jennifer Samaro (Salem, N.H./Central Catholic) was named LEC Rookie Swimmer of the Week, and junior Ryan Lambert (Derry, N.H./Pinkerton) was selected to the LEC Men's Basketball Weekly Honor Roll. Samaro received the top rookie swimmer honor for the second time this season while Lambert is recognized by the LEC for the first time in his career.
Samaro was honored after winning three individual events last Saturday to lead Plymouth State to a 151-142 win over Simmons College in the last dual meet of the season. She captured a variety of events, winning the 1,000-yard freestyle (11 minutes, 57.38 seconds); the 200-yard backstroke (2:23.56) and the 200-yard individual medley (2:28.17). Samaro (right) was second on the team this season with 13 individual victories in dual meets.
Samaro will compete with her teammates at the New England Swimming Championships on Feb. 19-21, at White River Jct., Vt. PSU completed the dual meets with a 7-2 record, its best mark in a season since 1998-99.
A 6'0" guard, Lambert averaged 21.0 points and 4.0 rebounds for PSU in a 1-1 week while shooting 67 percent from the field (16-of-24) and 73 percent from three-point range (8-of-11). He led PSU with 13 points in Tuesday's 55-54 non-conference victory over Bowdoin College, and he matched his career-high with 29 points in Saturday's LEC loss at Western Connecticut. Lambert (left) made 11-of-16 field goal attempts against WestConn, including 5-of-7 from three-point range.
Lambert and his teammates, 13-8 overall and 5-5 in the LEC, will play its final two regular season home games this week, hosting Southern Maine on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. and UMass Boston on Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
