Five Panthers named to prestigious quarter-century squads
NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. – As part of its Silver Anniversary celebration, the Little East Conference 25th Anniversary Men's and Women's Basketball Teams were announced Saturday afternoon following the 2011 LEC Basketball Championship games, and five former Plymouth State University student-athletes were recognized.
Each team, which included 25 student-athletes and one coach, was voted upon by LEC athletic administrators and coaches. The highly-decorated teams are highlighted by 19 men's and 14 women's Player of the Year award winners, including 14 multiple honorees, and 12 Rookie of the Year award recipients.
To be considered for the 25th anniversary teams, a student-athlete must have met the following criteria: a conference player of the year award winner, and/or a two- time All-Little East, first-team selection. The student-athletes that earned All-Little East, first-team honors during its first two years as a conference-sponsored sport were also placed on the ballot.
The five Plymouth State selections have all been inducted into the PSU Athletic Hall of Fame. The men's honorees include Moses Jean-Pierre (Cambridge, Mass., who played for the Panthers from 1990-94), Adam DeChristopher (Brockton, Mass., 1995-99) and Nick Pelotte (Bingham, Maine, 2001-05), while the women's representatives are Courtney Albert (Hudson, N.H., 1999-03) and Jenn Pelletier (Derry, N.H., 1999-03).
Initially formed in 1986 as a six-team men's and women's basketball conference, the Little East Conference has since grown to its present eight-school membership, sponsoring championship play in 19 intercollegiate athletics: baseball; men's and women's basketball; men's and women's cross country; field hockey; men's and women's lacrosse; men's and women's soccer; softball; women's swimming; men's and women's tennis; men's and women's indoor track; men's and women's outdoor track and women's volleyball. The 2010-11 academic years marks the 25th anniversary for the Little East Conference.
