PSU Men’s Basketball defeated by UMass Dartmouth

Panthers fall in final game of semester

              NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth men's basketball team used a 22-4 run to open a 20-point first-half lead Saturday afternoon and went on to defeat Plymouth State University, 87-64, in a Little East Conference game at the Tripp Athletic Center.

              Senior Lance Greene led the Corsairs with a double double, scoring 25 points and grabbing 13 rebounds.  He made 8-of-11 shots from the field and blocked six shots. Sophomore Eleazar Clayton added a career-high 20 points, senior Alex Klepaldo contributed 11, and sophomore John Genkos added 10.

              Senior Brian Chergey led the Panthers with 15 points, junior Matt Cloutier added 14, and junior Stephan Roberts had 11.

              The Corsairs got a pair of jumpers from freshman Alex Rodrigues, a three-point play from Genkos, and a layup from freshman Jake Laga to take a 22-11 lead with 9:29 left in the first half.  PSU senior Jesse Sabolis interrupted the run with a layup, but Greene  hit a layup and two free throws and Clayton added a layup and a pair of jump shots. PSU senior Kyle Walker converted a layup, but UMD senior Colin Burns capped the run with a three-pointer.

              The Corsairs improved to 6-3 and 1-1 in the Little East while the Panthers dropped to 4-5 and 0-2 in LEC play. UMass Dartmouth will return to action when they host Johnson & Wales Tuesday evening. Plymouth State will visit Bowdoin January 3rd.
